Myrtle Beach ~ America's #1 Golf Home Town
MYRTLE BEACH ~ "AMERICA'S #1 GOLF-HOME TOWN"
as named by Golf Digest in their June 2006 Issue. With 28 courses carrying player ratings of 41/2 stars, or more, in the Best Places to Play guide, Myrtle Beach was given the highest point total of all of the golf communities rated nationwide. Using data from 244 counties in the U.S. they rated golf communities on criteria such as the number of highly ranked courses, playable days per year, cost of living, off-course diversions and more. Equal weight was given to golf and non-golf criteria.
Golf Digest wrote . . . "Prices
on oceanfront homes here have skyrocketed in the past 18 months, real-estate
agents report. But courseside homes are still relative bargains, agents say.
Prospective landlords should keep in mind that Atlantic-view condos are much
easier to rent than golf-course homes.
Among the area's more popular golf-course communities are the Barefoot Resort &
Golf and Tidewater Golf Club & Plantation, where condos fetch $200,000 and up.
At the newer Grande Dunes Golf Club, with a private course co-designed by Nick
Price, villas start at around $500,000.
About an hour south of Myrtle Beach, in Georgetown County, homes at the high-end
DeBordieu (locals pronounce it "Debbie-DO") Club start at $750,000. Lots
at the Reserve at Litchfield on Pawleys Island sell for $180,000 and up, with
homes beginning at $600,000." (Peter Finch, Golf Digest, June 2006)
