Opening in 1983, course designer Dan Maples built this magnificent golf course in Sunset Beach, N.C. which offers a combination of natural terrain and ingenious design to Bay present golfers with a true test of golf on a beautiful setting. This course features two island greens and other risk-reward opportunities that require a steady hand and rugged nerves. All handicaps are in for a treat on this links-style course that’s as lovely as it is challenging.
Receiving recognition from Golf Digest as “Best Places to Play” in 2005 and “5 Stars” in 2003, this will be worth the extra mile. The signature hole will be the 17th, at only 165 yards from the back tees, features a tiny green enclosed by trees and lined by the course’s trademark oyster shells. Another recognized hole is the 9th, a monster par 5, playing at 560 yards, with the marshy waters of the Calabash River running from tee to green on the left and out of bounds on the right, it presents a daunting challenge. Not to mention the green is only 29 yards deep and 25 yards wide. Head Pro, Tim Jackson, says to “play it cautious” and claims “it’s an outstanding par 5.”

Course was in great condition. Greens were rolling well. About average speed. Cart girl was nice. Cold towels during round was awesome! Views of the marsh were very nice. Would definitely play hear again.

From the time we arrived we were treated terrible. Bag boys/men told us to put back our coolers and then wanted to check our bags for BEER! Who plays this game without beer. Cart girl came by one time and we tipped her well, asked if we would see her again and she said, "maybe". All in all the staff acted like they would rather be some other place. Course was OK conditon but the views rank high. Need a little upkeep there guys to bathrooms and staff experience. Low rankings from me.

Another highly regarded course so far as we are concerned. So much so that we play it every other year in a rotation with King's North. This is a wonderful and beautiful course that offers a golfer just about everything - golf-wise and scenery-wise. We've played if for years and it still hasn't lost its luster.

Great layout. Really beautiful. But the fairways were spotty and the cart paths are in desperate need of repair.

Very good course. Back 9 is a bit more dificualt as we played it first and were 5 to 20 shots lower on the front 9. POP was 5 hours.
