Possum Trot Golf Club

Golf Digest’s Most Underrated Golf Course in Myrtle Beach for 2005 has also drawn rave reviews for its practice facility. Given that Possom Trot Golf Club is meant as a bit of a warm-up course, the two honors seem to go hand-in-hand.

The 6,343-yard extremely clean design is often considered one of the friendliest around South Carolina’s Grand Strand. Playability is then further magnified by a lack of homes on and around the North Myrtle Beach property.

“We’ve always tried to treat them well and we’ve kept the course in good shape,” head professional Bill Hulett said of the attraction Possum Trot. “It’s a nice course without a lot of houses on it. Yet, it doesn’t beat you up.”

Many of the holes here are straightforward or as close to that as possible. Where Possum Trot can add a couple extra strokes to the scorecard is on its uphill holes (Nos. 9 and 11, for instance), not to mention some conspicuously placed water.

That goes for No. 13, maybe more than anywhere else. The par 3 plays a maximum of 203 yards, but a lake separating tee from TifDwarf green makes the four backside bunkers seem like a relief.

Was there last week. Due to the 2 weeks of rain before our arrival it was hard to judge the course. The staff were great and the look of the fairways and greens that could be seen under the water look good. They allow our wife's to ride with us at NO COST The only negative thing was that the cart paths need a fair bit of work due to pot holes.

Really enjoyed this course. Wide fairways and good of the strangest things I've ever seen on a golf course was this male golfer who was walking the course had 15 dogs walking with him. When he put down his bag to putt the dogs all laid down and waited for him. Once he was done putting off they went VERY well behaved.the course was in very good shape. From the tips (blue tees) it played long. I would highly recommend this course

Greens were terrible!!! Very disappointed with the course period!! Drove a hour just to play and ended up with a very bad choice.

I called the pro shop to see if I could walk the course. I was told I could. After getting there, and paying a young incompetent man behind the desk I went to the driving range. The individual in charge wasn't there, and had a sign up that said "Be Back In 2 Minutes". I waited 15 minutes! It was a elderly gentleman, and he didn't apologize for my wait. Afterwards, I hit my range balls, and then went to tee-off at hole number 1. Upon my way there the starter said "where is your partner"? I said, "I am a single, and I paid to walk"! He said, "Singles can't walk, and play until the afternoon". He also didn't have my name on his list. I showed him my receipt. He went inside, and another individual came outside, and said I was good to go. I said, "Well since I was charged for a cart I am taking one". He said, "I completely understand, it's all just a misunderstanding". I then continued to play golf. Through 14 holes I had a 10 minute wait time at each tee-box. Also, after paying $50 dollars I was very unhappy because the course was in terrible condition! Four of the greens where "burned up". After playing multiple courses in Myrtle Beach I have came to one "conclusion"! Golf is ridiculously expensive, and decent course is going to cost you $65 plus dollars!!! A good course $80+++!!!!! In Tennessee this course would be a $25 dollar course!!! Possibly not worth that much!

Course was in good shape, not great. Greens had just been punched, but still rolled well. Fairways were in good shape. Nice layout. I would rate the course as a 7.5. Would rate it a little higher if the grill was better. Only cold sandwiches and hot dogs. Nice middle of the road course for warm up. I have played it before because it is very close to where I was staying. Staff was very nice.

The friendly staff, good course conditions, well paced round, and the lovely natural setting with mature tree lined fairways and interesting layout, made for a very enjoyable round.

Very good value, and it surprisingly good shape considering all the rain. Much better than we expected.

Some greens and tees needed work.
