Known for its world class golf academy and one of the top 3 practice facilities in Myrtle Beach, Possum Trot is perfect for a good warm up to any golf vacation giveaway with wide fairways and complete golf training center for any skill level. Recognized by Golf Digest as “Best Practice Facility in Myrtle Beach” in 2005, and “Best Of The Beach”-“Best Course For The Money” (2007 Finalist), this facility delivers top quality golf.
The signature hole No. 18, a 498-yard, par 5, is known as “Oh No” for the challenging two to three shots it’s going to take to reach this green in regulation. Long hitters have to work against the prevailing ocean breeze, an uphill fairway and a water hazard surrounding the green to make it difficult for golfers to reach in two. This par 5 closes within view of the clubhouse and the magnificent fountain pond.

Greens were terrible!!! Very disappointed with the course period!! Drove a hour just to play and ended up with a very bad choice.

I called the pro shop to see if I could walk the course. I was told I could. After getting there, and paying a young incompetent man behind the desk I went to the driving range. The individual in charge wasn't there, and had a sign up that said "Be Back In 2 Minutes". I waited 15 minutes! It was a elderly gentleman, and he didn't apologize for my wait. Afterwards, I hit my range balls, and then went to tee-off at hole number 1. Upon my way there the starter said "where is your partner"? I said, "I am a single, and I paid to walk"! He said, "Singles can't walk, and play until the afternoon". He also didn't have my name on his list. I showed him my receipt. He went inside, and another individual came outside, and said I was good to go. I said, "Well since I was charged for a cart I am taking one". He said, "I completely understand, it's all just a misunderstanding". I then continued to play golf. Through 14 holes I had a 10 minute wait time at each tee-box. Also, after paying $50 dollars I was very unhappy because the course was in terrible condition! Four of the greens where "burned up". After playing multiple courses in Myrtle Beach I have came to one "conclusion"! Golf is ridiculously expensive, and decent course is going to cost you $65 plus dollars!!! A good course $80+++!!!!! In Tennessee this course would be a $25 dollar course!!! Possibly not worth that much!

Course was in good shape, not great. Greens had just been punched, but still rolled well. Fairways were in good shape. Nice layout. I would rate the course as a 7.5. Would rate it a little higher if the grill was better. Only cold sandwiches and hot dogs. Nice middle of the road course for warm up. I have played it before because it is very close to where I was staying. Staff was very nice.

The friendly staff, good course conditions, well paced round, and the lovely natural setting with mature tree lined fairways and interesting layout, made for a very enjoyable round.

Very good value, and it surprisingly good shape considering all the rain. Much better than we expected.

Some greens and tees needed work.

The course was fine but I had the unhappy problem of losing my cell phone there. When a young lady at the desk went out to check with the cart crew she was loudly criticized by another man at the desk, saying "That's not her job! I left a number to reach me at the desk with the helpful young lady, as she did not find it ... luckily the phone was found by an honest man within 24 hours. But when he attempted to turn it in he was told at the desk to "just take it and sell it"!!! This kind man was able to contact another member of my group through my contact list and I got the phone back. He even refused my offer of cash for his trouble. Given my experience of the previous day there is no reason to doubt his description of events, I found the attitude of some of the staff to be simply stunning.

Course was great, pro shop was rude on arrival.
Call them underrated, undervalued or even under-appreciated. We call them five of the Grand Strand’s “Best Bang for the Buck.” Ian Guerin spotlights five courses you'll know were worth every dollar you spent.
