Wizard Golf Club

The Wizard Golf Links offers one of Myrtle Beach’s most interesting rounds of golf. The course is, at its heart, a links-style layout, but architect Dan Maples wasn’t bound to deliver a “type” of course.

The first hole and the final three all play around a lake, providing a more contemporary feel, and all are outstanding, particularly the 16th, an island green par 3 that is the Wizard’s most picturesque challenge.

In between, golfers get a taste of the Old Country as mounded fairways, stacked sod bunkers and gorse define the course. There are more than 100 different types of vegetation and the soaring mounds are best avoided.

The bentgrass greens, which are, unquestionably, among the area’s best, are mostly open in the front, allowing players to run the ball up and the fairways are more than generous, so long as you avoid the pot bunkers that lurk.

Word to the wise: don’t be fooled into thinking the Wizard is short, playing 6,138 yards from the regular tees. There are five par 3s, so the course isn’t as “short” as it appears on the card.

Play The Wizard Golf from the proper set of tees and give yourself a chance to go low.

Starters were great!

Wide variety of holes and challenges. I would have liked to know that the greens had been aerated recently and the ground pretty soft.

The Wizard embodies the best of Myrtle Beach golf -- fun, affordable, great conditions and fantastic customer service. Love the place. Castle-themed clubhouse is really cool, too.

The Wizard is a fun course, and was in great condition especially being in January. The first hole is a good starter hole with a dog leg to the right around water but you can plenty of room to work the ball. Fairways most part wide and the ball would run out well playing in the winter. The club house is one-of-a-kind with its castle design.

The first stop on our buddies trip was a good one! Great links style layout with really neat, deep bunkers and elevation changes. Really felt like we were in Scotland, not so much Myrtle Beach! It's a shot makers course, but still everyone in our group had a good time and was able to score. And once you get done with your round, be sure to check out the sweet clubhouse. it's an old-world, castle-style building filled with charm and character! Great way to finish the round, chilling in a castle with a cold one in your hand!

Love Dan Maples designs and this is a very good one. Really enjoyed the conditions and risk-reward holes.

The Wizard is nothing but fun to play. Great mix of holes. Really well designed. Love the mounds and Scottish-style bunkers. The last four holes are probably the best finish in Myrtle Beach. It's a treat to play. Cool Scottish castle clubhouse as well. Staff couldn't be nicer.

The greens roll pure.

Challenging but fun to play. Beautiful, spectacular, with island greens and fairways. Best greens of any course on the beach, along with its sister course, Man O'War, which we played later in the week. Staff was friendly, good hot dogs and burgers.
