Wizard Golf Club

The Wizard Golf Links offers one of Myrtle Beach’s most interesting rounds of golf. The course is, at its heart, a links-style layout, but architect Dan Maples wasn’t bound to deliver a “type” of course.

The first hole and the final three all play around a lake, providing a more contemporary feel, and all are outstanding, particularly the 16th, an island green par 3 that is the Wizard’s most picturesque challenge.

In between, golfers get a taste of the Old Country as mounded fairways, stacked sod bunkers and gorse define the course. There are more than 100 different types of vegetation and the soaring mounds are best avoided.

The bentgrass greens, which are, unquestionably, among the area’s best, are mostly open in the front, allowing players to run the ball up and the fairways are more than generous, so long as you avoid the pot bunkers that lurk.

Word to the wise: don’t be fooled into thinking the Wizard is short, playing 6,138 yards from the regular tees. There are five par 3s, so the course isn’t as “short” as it appears on the card.

Play The Wizard Golf from the proper set of tees and give yourself a chance to go low.

Really liked the layout. We need a lot more links courses. Very women friendly course & the whole experience was excellent.

Wow!! What a great course. It was in great shape. Had paid more to play inferior courses. I look forward to the next time I'm in MB.

Should have booked t-time when I got to Myrtle Beach! Booking ahead with f time through the Internet costs twice as much. Disappointed with the Cart Girl service on all courses

This course is Amazing! I played 27 holes at the sister course Man O' War on Friday and played 36 holes here Sunday! It rained for every hole we played but the course more than made up for the weather. The scenery first is top notch. The layout is challenging with constantly changing elevation paired with timely doglegs. The sand plays like sand, the rough plays true around the greens, and the greens putt consistently over all 18 holes. The 18th has an island fairway and green as a unique feature, preceded by an island par 3 at 17. It doesn't have the water features of its sister Man O' War, but it certainly has enough to keep you honest. I know that I will be back to both of these course many times over the years!
