Tiger’s Eye Golf Links

Tiger’s Eye Golf Links was the course that brought deserved national attention to Ocean Ridge Plantation.

A 4.5-star course, Tiger’s Eye has been ranked among “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” by Golf Digest and it’s one of the best along the Grand Strand. Architect Tim Cate used the land’s uncommon elevation change and his creative wizardry to craft the third of ORP’s Big Cats.

The defining characteristics at Tiger’s Eye are wide fairways framed by yawning waste bunkers and water on 15 of 18 holes. Once players arrive at the putting surfaces, undulating bentgrass greens await.

Don’t be daunted. The course has six sets of tees, ranging from 4,640 to 7,010 yards, so it’s playable for all levels of player.

Among the layout’s most memorable holes is the fourth, a relatively short par 4 with sand and water everywhere. The dogleg left provides a risk-reward decision (how much do you try to cut the corner?) that can define the front nine. It’s a great hole.

The par 3 11th, which plays to a peninsula green ringed by coquina boulders, is the most photographed hole at Tiger’s Eye Golf. The 11th has the course’s second smallest green, but the beauty, more so than the challenge, is what players take home.

The course layout was so so for a premium cost course. The back side was definitely more interesting. 5-6 of the greens were in bad shape with areas that had little or blotchy grass. There are other courses that offer better value and at present time in better shape. Fairways, Tees and bunkers were all in good condition.

Only my 2nd time playing here, but I have to give it up to them for being one of the only remaining courses in the Strand with Bent Grass greens. They weren't perfect looking, but man did they roll the right way. Such a nice break to be able to putt on Bent vs. whatever Champion surfaces the rest of the courses have changed to. Also, a huge thumbs up to the staff for being generous and accommodating...and to the pro shop for not overbooking the course, which is really saying something, because way too many pro shops down here book the times so close together that groups are on top of each other from the 1st's nice to play a course that isn't like that. I will continue to play this course for it's layout, greens and friendly vibes.

Cart paths only due to wet conditions but overall course conditions were excellent. Greens were fast and true, holding well. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Starter took the time to engage in conversation with our group and helped set the tone for an enjoyable day.

Course was in great shape tee to green. Not a very long course from the white tees (@6100yds), but challenging. Lots of dog legs. Shot makers course. Some of the bunkers were firm, but may be due to all the rain they had. Greens rolled very nice. Tough to read though. Would definitely play again.

We've played this course multiple times over the years and have always loved the layout of the course. We were excited to play the course again over the Christmas holidays only to find the greens to be in the worst condition we've ever seen them. Not only were they in rough condition, there were complete dead patches in the greens that made putting very difficult. The type of condition that can only be corrected with transplanting sod from a nursery green or by aerification and seeding. Very disappointing for the price.

Always a fun course with it's wonderful layout and variety of holes. Hadn't played it in a few years so everyone wanted to go back. Moving up a tee box made for a much more enjoyable day. We'll be playing it again in 2015.

Nice course in a very nice community. Favorite course in Ocean Ridge. This is one of our favorite courses that we have played in the area. The staff and people we met were very friendly. We did not like that we had to ride only in the rough on the cart path side due to seeding the fairways. We try to understand that this is necessary. We would have liked to know this prior to playing. Favorite clubhouse in Ocean Ridge. We would play this course again.
