Azalea Sands Golf Club, located in North Myrtle Beach, recently earned an overall rating of 6.4 from reviewers at Myrtle Beach Golf Insider. The course’s particular strengths, according to its most recent reviews, are its putting surfaces and its affordability.

Azalea Sands was designed by noted architect Gene Hamm and opened in 1972. It received a refreshing renovation in 2009 that has elevated it in the estimations of both visiting golfers and local players. At 6,902 yards from the back Blue tees, the course boasts relatively tame Rating and Slope figures of 72.5 and 123, respectively. But this does not mean that Azalea Sands is void of challenge—water features come into play on all but four holes. Its four total sets of tees provide a pleasant round for all players.

In spite of its location seemingly in the heart of vivacious North Myrtle Beach, Azalea Sands is a pleasant retreat. Part of the key to the serenity felt during a round there is the fact that the course is one of very few in the Myrtle Beach area where no houses or condominiums come into play. There is the sense of a “pure golf” experience that is sometimes hard to come by on vacation. A signature hole is the 11th, a par five that measures 515 yards from the back Blue tees and 460 yards from the more oft-used White set. It is a reachable par five where the second shot must carry a pond to a green flanked by two bunkers. Two excellent shots can yield an eagle chance but a misstep can prove costly—a terrific risk-reward proposition.

Rates are different for everybody, coupons are a joke. there was hardly no grass or it was so short it wasnt playable. sand traps were ok and greens putted ok but had weeds growing. unless you get on here cheap, dont bother.

I don't care for this course. It had rained the night before and water was everywhere. Although I was told it was cart paths only for carts, there was water lying everywhere. It was difficult to even find a place to move the ball to hit so that the ball wasn't in casual water. It was not playable in my judgment.

Should cater to disabled golfer(knee),cart path only was hard to handle,it is soft but using discretion on course I dont see a problem running the fairways--is this the only fully dormant course in myrtle?
