The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, one of the best-regarded golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area and the greater southeastern United States, carries a Golf Insider rating of 8.8. The categories in which the course distinguishes itself in particular include conditioning and the quality of the staff.

Opened in 1948 and designed by legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., The Dunes Golf and Beach Club is a classic golf course located in the heart of Myrtle Beach. With a proud membership and a storied history of hosting professional golf at the top levels, The Dunes commands respect from all who play it. Both GOLF Magazine and Golf Digest have placed it among their respective “Top 100 Golf Courses in America” lists, with such events as the Senior Tour Championship, the U.S. Women’s Open and PGA Tour Qualifying School finals as but a few of the tournaments contested over its 18 holes. In 2014, The Dunes will host the PGA Professional National Championship, from which the top 20 finishers will earn a spot in the 2014 PGA Championship.

At just under 7,200 yards from the back tees and smallish, push-up greens guarded by fearsome bunkers, The Dunes is one of the most challenging courses on the Grand Strand. and with one of the area’s iconic holes, it is one of the most recognizable. The 13th, a nearly 600-yard par five called “Waterloo” swings hard to the right around Lake Singleton, forcing players who want a chance at birdie to execute three consecutive high-quality shots, one of them a lengthy carry over a corner of the lake.

As a club with a significant membership, The Dunes Golf and Beach Club boasts understandably exquisite facilities. The grass driving range and practice putting and chipping/pitching greens—with a practice bunker as well—are excellent and the clubhouse, with dining areas that offer commanding views of the Atlantic Ocean and some of the best food on the Grand Strand, is a fantastic place to spend time unwinding before or after one’s appointed rounds.

Range balls were provided. The course was in great condition everywhere. The bent greens are great, smooth, firm, fast and true. Champions greens are coming this summer. The bunkers are the best maintained in MB, with tour style firm sand to walk on, but a SW cuts right through it. They also pack/roll the sand on the faces, which help prevent plugged balls and washouts. The white tees are 6175 yards, but a bunch of holes have landing areas into an upslope, so it plays longer. The greens are elevated, so there are no bounce ups, unless you hit a skull/stinger. The wooded areas are cleaned out, so finding balls in the woods is easy, helping the pace of play. A few holes have houses, but they are way off the fairways. On Waterloo par 5 ##13, I feel it's better to hit your tee shot further down the fairway, for a better angle across the water to advance further up the fairway, rather than taking an iron and trying to play near the water from the tee. There was a 4 gator cluster at about the 100 yard mark on ##13. That is a good gator viewing hole, but I have never seen a cluster like that before.

The yardage was not marked clearly, no hole markers that we could see, we even made comments to each other about what hole is this, how far do you think we are etc. Nice course good layout some memorable holes.

Excellent condition, course is beautiful. Greens fast and true. Service in snack bar was very slow, that is the only complaint.

I'm not sure what to say, we enjoyed it ... the price might keep us away though I don't know that it's worth more than other places at half the price it's not double the golf course it's about the same.

Beautiful course, immaculate condition. Staff were great. Due to some less than stellar play, we had been a bit slow. The attendant nicely asked us to pick it up. We did. He met us at the turn and thanked us. we really appreciated this. Grill is beautiful, overlooking the ocean, with very good food.
