Opened in 1996 and designed by Clyde Johnston, Glen Dornoch brings some of the aesthetics of the links courses of Great Britain and Ireland—features like pot bunkers, undulating greens and a windy site—to the Myrtle Beach golf scene. Golf Digest’s “Places to Play” list gives it four out of five stars and many locals and vacation visitors alike love the place.

The golf course measures just under 6,900 yards from the championship tees and carries one of the highest slope ratings—145—of any golf course in the Myrtle Beach area. as such, it is an ideal course for players who love a challenge to tee it up. The Intracoastal Waterway comes into play on five holes and other water hazards come into play on six more. Keeping one’s golf ball dry is only half the battle, though, as a number of pot bunkers guard the large, undulating TifEagle Bermuda putting surfaces.

The signature hole at Glen Dornoch is the finisher, a long par four that plays 455 yards from the tips, with the Intracoastal Waterway running up the left side of the hole. Players can either aim their tee shots well to the right and leave a long iron or fairway wood approach or take a daring and more direct line to the green that may leave a short iron or wedge second shot. Taking on the more aggressive option is perilous, though, as the landing area is not terribly wide. The green on the 18th is part of a double-green with the equally stunning par four 9th, guarded by half a dozen of Glen Dornoch’s trademark pot bunkers.

Off the golf course, Glen Dornoch is a gem with well-appointed facilities. The stately clubhouse overlooks the Waterway, affording golfers and other visitors from the community the opportunity to have a drink or a bite to eat with a view. The practice facilities are wonderful as well, with a spacious grass-tee driving range and a practice putting and chipping green close to the first tee.

Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links boasts a Golf Insider rating of 8.3, with recent reviews mentioning the high quality of the pro shop and staff.

Tried to get to the Glenns courses for years now,will definately play them again next year. spectacular track with awesome views and some very cool holes. worth every penny for holes 16-18. these holes are where the true "shot makers" come out.

I had a great time at Glen Dornoch. The course did not inhibit me whatsoever, neither in terms of compulsive challenge nor intimidation of staff. Each hole at Glen Dornoch is enjoyable and manageable, yet can play difficult from a improper tee deck. The course meanders through an attractive piece of North Myrtle Beach terrain, rubbing elbows with the intracostal waterway on three or four holes. The remaining etchings that sit inland leave their own trace on the memory. Greens are smallish with plenty of room for multiple pin locations. I felt very much at home at Glen Dornoch. I did not eat in the grill, so I gave it a perfect score.

Played glen dornoch Feb 25/2013 asked the bag person if the course was in good shape he said yes,talked to person at desk she told me it was in great shape.We started on # 1 tee off grass sparse and very spotty,fairways grass very thin and ground hard ,greens lots winter kill and NO GRASS when you put the ball bounces all the way towards the hole .I asked the person behind the counter why she told me the course was in great shape told me she had not been out there,DA DA DA.DO YOURSELF A FAVOR DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE AND WASTE YOUR MONEY

Golf course had an especially friendly staff. To say the course is challenging is an understatement. This course demands accuracy. Truly an enjoyable course with great views.

Greens were horrendous. Aeration done on course with several holes having inch wide sand trenches. Grass in fairways is sparse, tee boxes are not much better, Don't let practice green fool you,the greens are bad. The good part of the course is the layout, which is excellent, just a shame course conditioning is SO BAD
