The Heathland Course at Legends Golf and Resort recently earned an overall ranking of 8.2 from reviewers at Myrtle Beach Golf Insider, and the Tom Doak design has continued to impress over the years. Doak, a Pete Dye disciple and owner of four of the top designs in the world, created a course that has been named among America’s Best Places to Play by Zagat in 2003 and 2009, Best Public Access Courses in South Carolina by the S.C. Golf Ratings Panel in 2009, No. 12 on Golf Magazine’s Best Courses in South Carolina in 2008 and earned 4 ½ stars from Golf Digest in 2007 and 2008. Those awards chased one of its first; in 1990, it was named by Golf Magazine as one of the Top 10 New Resort Courses in the World. Heathland has a distinct feel from its neighboring courses, Legends Moorland and Legends Parkland.

Patterned off some of the British Isle’s most historic courses – Scotland’s St. Andrews, England’s Cruden Bay and Ireland’s Lahinch – Heathland is unlike any other on the Grand Strand. The par-71 course includes lush rough, deep, abundant bunkers and an unbridled breeze that that runs unobstructed nearly regardless of season. With wide-open fairways with little to no obstructions, the course takes on a wind-tunnel feel on several holes. That is evident from the start, a 414-yard par four, a hole that includes one of the widest fairways throughout the round. Other highlighted holes include No. 4, a 338-yard, par four with a dogleg left on the approach and mounds located directly in front of the green, and the par-four No. 16. On the latter, a narrow stream cuts across the fairway, affecting not only the tee shot, but the second.

The course is located just off U.S. 501, a major thoroughfare in and out of the heart of Myrtle Beach.

We played on a rainy and windy day, so it made things challenging. However had a great experience with this course. It was in great shape from tees to green. It is a Pete Dye course so there were far too many ill placed bunkers and way too many blind shots. Great course to play for lower handicappers.

Always a good course to play. Greens were a little crusty and fairways on the thin side.

We played on a Saturday morning; course was enjoyable. But it was very slow play; it took 3 hrs 10 minutes to play 9 holes!!! Need to space tee times out to 12 minutes!!

Again the starters could not have everything run smoothly.30 to 40 min. late again.much more user friendly than the Moorland.Overall the Legands are a great deal for superior golf.

A good course to begin the week. We played with a couple that came from the same place than us (Canada). It was fun and we enjoyed the day.
