In the first of her three-part series of impact drills, LPGA and Dustin Johnson Golf School instructor Meredith Kirk demonstrates a drill that will help reinforce where your arms need to be at impact. Video was shot on location at World Tour Golf Links in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Let&#8217;s talk about impact. Impact is the most important aspect of the golf swing because that is where you generate all your power and that is where the club head connects to the ball. That&#8217;s where you can press the ball and you get the ball up and out there.
One thing that&#8217;s often not talked about is what the arms are doing at impact and today I&#8217;m going to give you a drill called the “Push It Forward” drill that&#8217;s going to help show you where your arms need to be as your body is rotating through impact.
What you want to do is you want to grab a mid- to high-lofted club, go ahead and put a ball down, you&#8217;re going to get behind the ball, go ahead and get set up, take the club back and then slowly come down to the impact position. Now in the impact position notice my hands are forward, my hips are open to the target and my shoulders are nice and square.
Once you get in this position all I want you to do is take the ball and lift it up and follow through. I want you to notice the arm extension on this. You want to feel like you&#8217;re taking that ball down that target line so here I am, impact position, I&#8217;m starting to feel my weight again transfer on my forward foot here, push the ball forward and then finish.
You want to do this about 5 or 10 times. Learn to create that muscle memory, and this gives you a great feel of extending the arms as your body is rotating through impact. I&#8217;m going to do it one more time.
Get set up in the impact position here and lift the ball up. It&#8217;s almost like you&#8217;re flinging the ball down the line, so this is a great drill to use to help teach you where your arms need to be as your body is rotating through impact.
