In the first of her series of instructional videos involving wedges, LPGA Instructor and Myrtle Beach golf ambassador Meredith Kirk shows how to implement the “Clock Drill” to ensure consistency between your back swing and forward swing.

Today I&#8217;m going to show you a really cool drill called the clock drill. You can use this with any wedge in your bag – your pitching wedge, your sand wedge, your gap wedge, your lob wedge. With this drill, you want to imagine that your golf swing is like a clock. The club head represents the hour on the clock. For example, right here I&#8217;m at about 7:00, 8:00, 9:00. Here I&#8217;m going to take it down on the other side. Here&#8217;s 3:00, 4:00, 5:00. What you want to make sure that you do with all your wedges is you want to match your backswing with your forward swing. That&#8217;s the goal.
I&#8217;m going to take this shot right here and I&#8217;m going to take the club back to about 9:00, and then take it to 3. (Swings club) I went just a little bit past 3 because normally for me when I play, I have a little bit more of a forward swing. That&#8217;s totally okay. Why? Because you get more control with your forward swing. It&#8217;s kind of opposite of what most players think, that you have to have this big backswing. Not really, not when it comes to your wedges, because you want to have more control. Again, you want to make sure that at a minimum your backswing matches your forward swing. If you have a little bit more of a forward swing, you&#8217;re good to go. It&#8217;s totally okay.
This time I&#8217;m going to take it to about 10:00. I&#8217;m going to match it on the other side at about 2:00. (Swings club). Then this next shot, what I&#8217;ll do is I&#8217;ll take it down a little bit, hit a lower shot. Maybe we&#8217;ll just go 8 to 4:00. (Swings club)
This is an awesome drill because you really get a great idea on all your distances with your wedges. Next time you&#8217;re out practicing, another little tip is you might want to bring a notepad, write down what wedges you play with, and mark your distances or different times on the clock for each wedge. This is really going to help your golf game, help lower your score. Just go out there and give it a try. It&#8217;s called the clock drill.
