The South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel (SCGCRP) has released its 2015 list of “Best You Can Play” Public Access Courses in South Carolina, and two gems in the Prime Times Signature Collection – Grande Dunes Resort Club and Pawleys Plantation Golf &amp; Country Club – are among the Grand Strand designs chosen for this prestigious honor.
<a href="http://www.mbn.com/courses/grand-dunes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Grande Dunes Resort Club</a> &#8211; which served as co-host of the 2014 PGA Professional National Championship along with fellow “Best You Can Play” course The Dunes Golf and Beach Club – joins a select group of 12 Myrtle Beach-area courses that includes Caledonia Golf &amp; Fish Club, which received SCGCRP’s “Best in Region” designation.
A Jack Nicklaus signature design, <a href="http://www.mbn.com/courses/pawleys-plantation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pawleys Plantation</a> gains this honor on the heels of last year’s participation as a host course for Golf Channel’s “Big Break Myrtle Beach” along with the Dye, Fazio and Love courses at Barefoot Resort &amp; Golf.
The Grand Strand’s 12 entries join the 13 honorees in the Lowcountry area that includes Charleston and Hilton Head Island – giving the South Carolina shoreline 25 out of 30 courses on the statewide list. That&#8217;s no surprise, said Michael Whitaker, the panel’s executive director.
&#8220;Given how golf has become such a vital part of the state&#8217;s tourism industry, the coastal areas naturally have developed high quality courses for public play,&#8221; said Whitaker. &#8220;The thing is, there are many more outstanding courses throughout the state besides the ones chosen on this list. You can play any number of courses in the state and leave with a &#8216;wow&#8217; impression.
&#8220;Remember, these are courses the public can play. Add the many wonderful private courses in the state and you see how fortunate golfers are in South Carolina.&#8221;
