What’s the best golf course in Myrtle Beach? It’s a common question without an easy answer but, make no mistake, there is an argument to be made that Heritage Golf Club is area’s finest layout.
The Dan Maples design is lowcountry beauty, playing through soaring live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, magnolia trees and land that was once home to a thriving rice plantation. The combination of natural beauty and Maples’ vision conspired to create a course that golfers talk about long after they’ve returned home.
Heritage is renowned for its massive, undulating greens, which are among the Grand Strand’s most challenging. The course doesn’t overwhelm players with length and it has five sets of tees, but forced carries are aplenty.
Two of the holes that require a forced carry, the par 3 13th and the par 5 18th, are arguably the course’s best. Both feature devilish greens that have to be approached while playing over water.
The drive into Heritage, which features an alley of trees, sets the stage at a course that has been ranked as high as No. 33 on Golf Digest’s list of America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses.
This is a golf course you won’t forget.
