Panther’s Run Golf Links

Panther’s Run Golf Links is the friendliest of the four Big Cats at Ocean Ridge Plantation, but it’s by no means a pushover.

Tim Cate’s first solo design, Panther’s Run plays through a nature preserve, challenging players to avoid or hit over the water on 16 of 18 holes. The course has enjoyed popular and critical acclaim, earning 3.5 stars in Golf Digest’s Place to Play rankings and being ranked among the "Top 50 in Myrtle Beach."

Among the most memorable holes are the par 4 15th and 18th, which bookend an outstanding closing stretch. The 15th only plays 357 yards from the white tees, but water runs along the length of the right side of the hole and pinches the fairway near the green. Tee shots that land on the right side of the fairway will force a short, knee-knocking approach over water.

The closing hole is a straight par 4, but it plays 380 yards from the white tees and the approach is all over water. It’s a hole that has decided a lot of bets over the years.

After finishing a round, golfers need to enjoy the clubhouse Panther’s Run shares with Lion’s Paw as it has been ranked among "America’s 100 Best Golf Shops."

Panther’s Run Golf Links Course Reviews

Recent Reviews

by Tim Rahill -
Our group of 36 booked the Cat Courses last year for play this week. Panthers Run and Lions Paw were included. Our organizer called last week to advise Lions Paw was in very bad shape and offered to get us out from it and onto another course. We had a 4 for 3 deal and were offered 3 for 2 on the remaining Cat courses. Now we know why the discounts were given. A local confirmed Lions Paw was terrible, basically had packed mud for greens. Turns out Panthers Run wasnt much better. We had heard their greens were rough, but didnt understand how bad till no. 1 green. After playing our approach shots from the unmown fairway, we found a green with packed / caked on grass seed, a few patches of poa aunna and a coat of green dye. This was the case (fairway included) for all the remained holes as well. To say we were disappointed would be the understatement of the year. Its unbelievable that a golf club would operate with greens in this condition. Regardless of why they needed or chose to treat the greens this way, not being transparent it about is a crime. The owner/management should be castigated for what ever you might call this operation. This is a very nice layout with a respected history in Myrtle Beach area golf. The owners are apparently milking these courses and avoiding proper maintenance and re-investment. The staff were great, but we wont be back here anytime soon.

Greens were in nice shape as was the whole back nine. The front side was really dry and the fairways & rough are pretty burned out. It's a fun course to play.

Excellent! Green cleaned without humidity even early in the morning. Speed of the green excellent.

Starter was a jerk, acted like we were in the way, not paying customers. The course does not have enough carts. We had to walk several hundred yards to the driving range and were late teeing off waiting for them to get a cart ready.

It was my first time at Panther's Run and I really enjoyed it. I loved the layout and thought the course was in great shape. I thought the staff did a great job and was very friendly.

Nice course and staff, would play again. Only issue was the pro shop did not take the voucher purchased online, they only looked at it then returned it and then charged $34 per player. This caused us to pay for the round twice, once thru purchase of voucher and once at golf course. Also, the rate we got at the course was less than the price we got from the online voucher. I was disappointed with both issues and had to resolve by telephone later that day.

Nice holes, design, greens too slow, too many houses lining fairways. Good condition.

Just an OK course. Fairways were pretty brown and dry. Miniverde greens were good and putt true. Open course.

Course was in good shape for the little rain the area has received in the last few months. I golfed another course earlier in the week, and it was in terrible shape. Panther's Run looked much better. I will definitely be playing the Big Cats on my next trip to the area.

(Would like to have known prior to play about the) course condition. Greens were good, but fairways were brown.

Sorry, but it's more important as to what we didn't like. Greens were terrible, looked like they were spray painted, had not been cut or rolled. Never had a true putt due to condition of greens.

Extremely disappointed that the course had been reseeded and it was cart paths only ... we would definitely not have played if we knew in advance. Tried to resolve this prior to play and there was no cooperation from anyone to accommodate our concerns.

the course was extremely wet and soggy. almost every hit from the fairway threw up mud. cart path only takes so much more time to play a round of golf.

The course was very nice till you got to the greens, I was quite suprised that they were not as nice after playing two of the other courses at Ocean Ridge.
