<p>Final details of the upcoming <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/pawleys-plantation">Pawleys Plantation&nbsp;Golf Club</a></u> renovation are still being ironed out, but the general scope of work has been defined. The four-month project will include new greens, an overhaul of every bunker, and the remaking of the clubhouse pub and restaurant.</p>

<p>A Jack Nicklaus design renowned for its beauty &#8211; six back nine holes play along a stunning saltwater marsh &#8211; Pawleys will enjoy a renovation that is coming at just the right time. The layout opened in 1988 and the Nicklaus Design team, led by Troy Vincent, is prepared to modernize one of the area’s most popular courses beginning on May 21.</p>

<p>With an eye on a late September reopening, here are the aspects of the Pawleys renovation that have us most excited:</p>

<p>– It has been years since Pawleys underwent a significant greens renovation and as a result, the putting surfaces have shrunk dramatically. The restoration of the putting surfaces to their original size and contours will substantially increase pinnable areas and contribute to the layout’s playability.</p>

<p>– The design at Pawleys has always been an outstanding one but it came of age in a different era, and the renovation will provide the course with a more contemporary feel. The changes will be most notable in the layout’s bunkering. Those sprawling bunkers that feast on mid to high handicappers will be significantly reduced in size and in some cases eliminated. Don’t worry, Pawleys will still offer plenty of challenge. The scaling back of the bunkers, which will be replaced by native areas in some instances, will improve course maintenance and enhance playability for the golfers who need it most.</p>

<p>– Tree removal isn’t sexy but it is impactful. Don’t get me wrong, unless you’ve played the layout countless times, you are unlikely to notice there were trees removed but this “silent” part&nbsp; of the project will expand fairway corridors, in addition to allowing more exposure to the sun, which makes it easier for grass to thrive.</p>

<p>– While it doesn’t impact what happens on the course, the reimagined pub should enhance the experience. Plans call for the Pawleys pub to offer expansive views of the 18th hole and marsh, making it the perfect setting to enjoy lunch and a drink after your round. The outdoor seating will be equally appealing as Pawleys looks to capitalize on its beauty, even after the final putt drops.</p>

<p>It won’t be easy for one of the Myrtle Beach area’s most popular courses to be closed for four months, but I’m already looking forward to the fall.</p>
