<p>Simply coming to South Carolina’s Grand Strand for a golf vacation doesn’t equate to cart blanche. Over the years, we’ve seen and heard it all. Golfers come here but forget that what happens in Myrtle Beach doesn’t always stay in Myrtle Beach. Yes, mistakes have been made.</p>

<p>Because a golf cart driven into a pond, a club broken over a knee and friendships dissolved doesn’t have to happen. Everyone comes here with good intentions, until they don’t. It doesn’t have to be a catastrophic misstep, either. Sometimes, not making the right move can be as painful to the wallet and ego as goofing up.</p>

<p><strong>DO PLAN AHEAD; DON’T WING IT</strong><br>Maybe the most important part of the golfing trek is the planning portion. You’re going to want to line up lodging, courses, meals, equipment, clothing, transportation.</p>

<p>You’re going to want to know who’s bunking with who (if applicable). You’re also going to want to have some heart-to-heart discussions prior to getting here. Because how everyone will mesh &#8211; is Tony a night owl, but John is out cold by 9 p.m.? &#8211; can become a problem.</p>

<p>Assuming that everything will simply fall into place is one of those catastrophic miscues that can break a vacation before it really gets off the ground.</p>

<p>Many months of the year, you’re not going to simply walk into the most popular restaurants and not be staring at a wait. If your tee times aren’t booked in advance, you might not be able to get a full foursome (or anyone) on specific courses.</p>

<p>And it’s always good to have a verified back-up plan. Crazy stuff happens, after all.</p>

<p>Myrtle Beach is the perfect place to stretch your comfort levels.</p>

<p>The most obvious way to do this is with course selection. Pick that favorite, sure, but don’t forget that there are 90 tracks in the area, and all of them have something special to offer. You can pick by price point, difficulty, designer, location, and on and on.</p>

<p>You might just find your new favorite along the way.</p>

<p>The same can be said for dining and entertainment. Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing are great. But they’re only the tip of the iceberg for places to eat and spend some down time off the courses.</p>

<p>The guy driving was sitting on the bank probably trying to piece together how things went so wrong so quickly. For those who imbibe, there’s an obvious lesson here.</p>

<p>If you’re a two-drink max back home, there’s no magic to Myrtle Beach that alters your tolerance. It’s not just about the booze, either.</p>

<p>Travel adrenaline only goes so far when it comes to your personal body rhythms, too. If you’re not used to staying up to 2 a.m. and then getting up first thing in the morning, that’s going to affect that 8 a.m. tee time in a way you won’t like. Why duff your way around the first five-six holes because you’re still shaking off the cobwebs?</p>
