<p>South Carolina’s Grand Strand has been a great starting spot for rankings personnel the country over for decades.</p>

<p>They come to visit, use whatever metrics they see fit and start doling out awards left and right. When you have 90 or so courses to choose from in that regard, well, we’ve made it pretty easy on them.</p>

<p>What we also have, though, are the types of everyday courses that often get lost in the shuffle. They’ve got their own character, their own styles and requirements to shoot well. Locals know these five tracks as some of their favorites for any number of reasons.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/litchfield-country-club">LITCHFIELD COUNTRY CLUB</a></strong><br>Litchfield has so many claims to fame in the Myrtle Beach area’s golf scene. But what it presents to this day is a beautifully designed course that is unlike anything else around. Sure, you’ll see elements it replicated, but en masse this relatively short and dogleg-heavy track has the types of live oaks defining it start to finish. This is an excellent option for golfers who aren’t adept at hitting the ball 300 yards, because that won’t do you much good here anyway.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/burning-ridge-golf-club">BURNING RIDGE GOLF CLUB</a></strong><br>The test that is Burning Ridge falls in the seclusion of the course. Granted, if you saw where it was located, you might not exactly think of this place as secluded. Still, even with a few homes dotting the property, Burning Ridge is fun round where distractions are based solely upon what’s going on in your own head. The clientele here is light-hearted and the staff rolls with the vibe. And even for the lesser trained, the design isn’t going to crush anyone.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/long-bay-golf-club">LONG BAY GOLF CLUB</a></strong><br>There probably many Jack Nicklaus designs around the globe who will fall into this category, but at Long Bay, it’s relative positioning along the Grand Strand makes it a bit of a diamond in the rough. Or, more appropriately, a diamond in the country. Nestled by the quiet and calm of the north end of Horry County, Long Bay is one of those rare tree-lined tracks that Nicklaus designed during the last 1980s. It’s a true shot-makers course where some creative bunkering is simultaneously diabolical and fun. <em>(Long Bay Club top photo)</em></p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/glen-dornoch-golf-club">GLEN DORNOCH WATERWAY GOLF LINKS</a></strong><br>After a quality first few warm-up holes, the beauty that is Glen Dornoch and its surroundings starts to come into play right around the same time you’ve started to click. This Par-72 Clyde Johnston layout hugs the corner of the North Carolina state line and the Intracoastal Waterway. The latter is actually where you’ll finish your round. The last three holes here bring you front and center with the entertainment and sailing vessels who use Little River as a de facto home away from the open water of the Atlantic.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/founders-club">FOUNDERS CLUB AT PAWLEYS ISLAND</a></strong><br>No matter how many photos you look at, nothing will prepare you for the vast bunker complex that is Founders Club. No, we don’t mean a few waste areas and green side sand spots. We mean nearly all of it. What often gets lots in the shuffle, though, is how the revitalized location uses all that sand to steer newcomers and regulars alike to the best targets you’re going to find on a golf course. Inadvertently, many first-timers shoot extremely well while avoiding the sand.</p>
