<p>When you load your clubs, the cooler and some clothes in the car and set off on a Myrtle Beach golf trip, you are dreaming of great rounds and the fun that follows.</p>

<p>Truth is, it can be hard to go low on a course you are unfamiliar with, but that’s why we are here to provide a little local knowledge. If you want to play well at <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/burning-ridge-golf-club">Burning Ridge Golf Club</a>, here are a few tips that could help you win a vital match.</p>

<p><strong>Don’t Make an Unforced Error on the First Hole</strong><br>The opener at Burning Ridge is a 546-yard par 5 (all distances from white tees), the longest hole on the course, so you need to arrive at the tee ready to unleash but beware on your second shot. Water that isn’t visible with the early morning sun in your face, bisects the fairway 60 yards from the green, and it’s absolutely reachable. The last thing you want to do is hit a perfectly struck shot that ends up in water you didn’t see. Pay attention and play to the proper yardage. <em>(1st hole pictured right)</em></p>

<p><strong>Attack Early!</strong><br>The fourth hole is 317-yards, No. 6 is 323 yards and No. 8 is 305 yards, so you have to take advantage of this trio of par 4s if you want to score well. Water is a risk on No. 4 but otherwise there is little danger relative to the reward. Whether you go for broke with a driver or play a more controlled shot off the tee, holes 4, 6 and 8 will provide opportunities to score.<em>(4th hole pictured right)</em></p>

<p><strong>Find the Fairway</strong><br>Burning Ridge isn’t super tight off the tee, but the fairways are tree-lined and it’s hard to make a living off the pine straw. Some people will tell you this is a second shot course, due to how small the greens are, but you have to be in position to make a good approach and that means you have to drive the ball well.</p>

<p><strong>Hang on Tight!</strong><br>Enjoy all those short par 4s on the front because they give way to a much more demanding back nine. After the manageable 386-yard 10th hole awaits the day’s toughest test, No. 11, a 427-yard two-shotter. This dogleg left has brought the best of players to their knees. Here is one piece of advice: don’t be afraid to take your medicine. Bogey isn’t a bad score so don’t try to be a hero in search of par and end up posting a big number here. <p><strong>The Back 9 Par 3s Will Scare You</strong><br>You can’t relax walking off the 11th green because the almost equally daunting 200-yard, par 3, No. 12 awaits. The first 170 yards require a carry over water so there is nothing easy about this hole. Architect Gene Hamm allowed players to catch their breath on holes 13-16, but No. 17, a 164-yard par 3, requires another knee-knocking tee shot. Survive holes 11, 12 and 17 and you will be positioned to finish strong at Burning Ridge. <em>(12th hole pictured right)</em></p>
