<p>If you have seen any of my golf tip videos, you&#8217;re probably going to find many on having the proper posture. And it sounds like such a small detail, but it is so fundamental to swing mechanics and having a functional golf swing. So I&#8217;m going to give you two tips today on how to achieve the proper posture.</p>

<p>Now the first thing is setting up your lower body and creating a nice, stable base for your swing. So I always suggest when you&#8217;re working on full swing at a minimum to have your feet shoulder-width apart. Now, the longer the club, the wider the base, that&#8217;s okay, but again, at a minimum shoulder-width apart.</p>

<p>Now, once you get set up with your feet shoulder-width apart, I&#8217;m going to turn to the side here. I want you to learn how to bend from the hips, not the waist when it comes to establishing the proper posture. So it&#8217;s going to look like this. I like to get a club and put it against my hips. You can kind of feel your pelvis area here, and all you&#8217;re doing is leaning forward with the upper body like this. So I&#8217;m just kind of going back and forth, leaning forward, keeping my back straight. That&#8217;s the key. What you don&#8217;t want to do is you don&#8217;t want to just kind of bend from the waist like this, and you kind of get tucked in. Your back&#8217;s a little bit rolled over like this. I mean, this is really going to make your swing very compact. You&#8217;re not going to be able to rotate like this. You&#8217;re going to feel locked in. You&#8217;re going to feel cramped in the swing. But again, keeping the back nice and straight, bending from the hips is key.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s going to feel like you have a string coming out of the top of your head when you&#8217;re in this motion, and it goes all the way through your spine. So you always want to make sure that you feel like you can feel that string coming from the top of your head, you can lay a club against your spine, and notice my back is nice and straight, so I&#8217;m standing tall, bending at the hips. I&#8217;m standing tall and I&#8217;m bending at the hips.</p>

<p>Now I&#8217;m going to remove the club and this right here is a nice setup for proper posture. So my backside is out, my back is nice and straight, I&#8217;m leaning forward. When it comes to where do I feel my weight? Well, because my feet are shoulder-width apart, I feel my weight is equally distributed from the heels and the balls of my feet. I feel nice and balanced. And with that, I&#8217;m going to be able to have great swing mechanics, a very functional golf swing, consistency, and all the great things that come with a golf swing when you have solid fundamentals. So again, proper posture sounds like such a small detail, but to me, it&#8217;s one of the top five most important fundamentals in your golf swing, so give this tip a try.</p>
