History…Character…Timeless Design…the legacy at Pine Lakes Country Club continues to grow and remains a perennial must-play in Myrtle Beach. Commonly coined the ‘Granddaddy of the Grand Stand’, Pine Lakes Country Club is the very first golf course built in Myrtle Beach almost a century ago in 1927. Originally built on sand dunes just steps from the Atlantic Ocean, this Robert White design recently completed a $15-million renovation to restore the spirit of the 1920’s playing experience as when it first opened. Every aspect of the property was touched including the ‘Great Gatsby-esque’ design styled clubhouse…including the Snug Pub…where back in 1954 Henry Luce conceived the idea that ultimately became Sports Illustrated, the most well-known successful sports magazine in the world. Golf enthusiasts will enjoy the Hall of Fame Gardens behind the clubhouse by the 14th tee…home of the Myrtle Beach Golf Hall of Fame…a tribute to those individuals who helped grow Myrtle Beach into the golf destination it has become. One feature players will surely notice from the restoration is the use of Seadwarf Paspalum, a healthy, dense turf grass that tolerates salt-rich irrigation just a few hundreds yards from the Atlantic Ocean. Pine Lakes is the only course on the Grand Strand that has this breakthrough turf grass providing great conditions and playing surfaces, year-round. As one might expect, this historic design is not overly long, measuring just over 6,700 yards playing to a par 70. True to its name, Pine Lakes fairways are lined by tall, long leaf Carolina pines with lakes in play on many holes including the par three’s eleventh…and sixteenth holes. Players will find a perfect combination of dogleg par fours and scoreable par fives with just forty bunkers found throughout this remarkable layout in the heart of Myrtle Beach. Contouring fairways…mature hardwoods…stunning visuals…rich history…and an attentive, friendly staff…Pine Lakes Country Club draws upon its storied history to connect the past with the present. The Granddaddy of Myrtle Beach golf…Pine Lakes Country Club…the Grand Strand’s most storied golf experience!
