<p>Two of Myrtle Beach’s most celebrated golf courses have had their place among the game’s best reaffirmed by the release of Golf Magazine’s biennial ranking of the “Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S.”</p>

<p>The iconic <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/the-dunes-golf-and-beach-club">Dunes Club</a>, a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design, was ranked No. 60, while <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/caledonia-golf-and-fish-club">Caledonia Golf &amp; Fish Club</a>, the inaugural design of the late Mike Strantz, earned the No. 76 spot on the Golf Magazine list, which ranks America’s best public courses.</p>

<p>Rankings are notoriously subjective (and prone to groupthink), but the Dunes Golf and Caledonia have been a consistent presence on top 100 lists of all kinds for years, a testament to the quality of both designs.</p>

<p>Dunes Club opened in 1948 and helped put Myrtle Beach on the golf travel map with a layout that travels along a rolling piece of land just yards from the Atlantic Ocean. The host of the PGA Tour’s Myrtle Beach Classic, the course&#8217;s most famed stretch is holes 11 through 13, otherwise known as “Alligator Alley.”</p>

<p>The par 4 11th hole and the par 3 12th play along the tidal waters of Singleton Swash, while the iconic 13th is a dogleg right known as “Waterloo.” It’s an unforgettable trio of holes that is representative of the beauty and challenge the Dunes Club provides.</p>

<p>While the Dunes Club offers a classic layout, Caledonia features a modern design complement of Strantz, the late architect known as “The Maverick.” Playing through centuries-old live oak trees draped in Spanish moss, Caledonia is equal parts art and architecture.</p>

<p>The combination of Strantz’s imagination and a beautiful piece of lowcountry land is a winning one for golfers. A round at Caledonia is highlighted by the par-4 18th hole, which requires a carry over water to a green that resides in the shadow of the course’s stately clubhouse.</p>
