MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. | Falling relatively late into the spring calendar in 2019, the Easter holiday in late April will afford locals and visitors alike the opportunity to make the most of any extra time off. We don’t want you to get too comfortable, so we’re assigning some homework. Amid the 90 or so courses up and down South Carolina’s Grand Strand golfing mecca are a handful of courses that feature some under-the-radar holes or sights. Quirky designs are blended among their brethren, but so, too, are rare pieces of history and perfect backdrops for frameable photos for years to come.
Find these Easter eggs and add to your experience.

Players who don’t know better often avoid even angling their gaze to the right on the next-to-last hole of the front nine here. The sliver of grass certainly doesn’t look like a fairway, and the relatively short-yardage glimpse of the green could trigger some thoughts of doing something brazen. That’s exactly what Gary Player was going for. Instead of using the traditional dogleg fairway up the left &#8211; which plays no longer than 371 yards &#8211; you can actually scoot up that rough on the right and cut the distance considerably. Just don’t miss.

Want a picture that will start a conversation? How about you and the rest of your foursome, clubs in hand, next to a sign for the North Carolina-South Carolina state line? On <a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/farmstead-golf-club">Farmstead’s</a> par-6, 767-yard hole, that opportunity presents itself. The tee box for the monster finisher starts in South Carolina before crossing back into North Carolina on the final half. You’ll need to plan ahead and keep your eyes out for the sign, but the extra focus could provide a rare golf memento.

Speaking of photos, you won’t have to think too hard where you were if you get one on the 12th hole at <a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/myrtle-beach-national-kings-north">King’s North</a>. Here, the par 3’s island landing zone (connected only by a small bridge running left to right) includes a pair of bunkers that read “S” and “C”. If you aren’t in too much of a rush, have one of your playing partners stay behind on the tee box and snap of pic of you standing on the back side of the “S”. Just make sure you rake for the next group.

Throughout much of the Lowcountry, former plantation lands are now golf courses. And throughout the years, <a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/willbrook-plantation">Willbrook</a> has continued to pay homage to its history. Although six historical markers adorn the property, none are more important than the sign next to No. 8. It is there that the former slave burial grounds are honored alongside those of once-freed men and women who chose to return. The scene can be sobering, of course, but also enlightening to what once stood on this land.
