Just north of Murrells Inlet in Garden City, Indian Wells Golf Club offers one of the areas most enjoyable, and consistent golf experiences on the Grand Strand. Open since 1984, this course underwent extensive renovations by Carolina's own Gene Hamm in 2003. The work entailed a complete overhaul; including rebuilding all the greens, redesigning six screens, reversing the nines, a clubhouse renovation, and incorporation of rock barriers found throughout the course. These efforts were quickly appreciated by golfers and industry veterans, receiving the coveted Golf Course of the Year Award in 2004, by the Myrtle Beach Area Golf Course Owners Association. The parkland style design features impressive, tall Carolina Longleaf pines, and numerous lakes in play throughout this par-72 layout. Gentle mounding, and raised fairway bunker lips frame holes beautifully, providing easily identifiable sight lines. Known for its playability, Indian Wells has one of the areas most memorable finishes, a four hole stretch, with water in play on every hole. The 15th is a reachable par five, with water on down the left, bending around this impressive lake. The 16th turns back to the clubhouse, with a large green, and a subtle slope. The daunting par-3 17th requires a forced carry to stay dry. The finishing 18th is the most difficult hole on the course, with water in play on your second shot, with a dangerously protected green. Indian Wells Golf Club remains on the short list of must play tracks in Myrtle Beach. Enjoy every aspect of this great game.
