MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. | Getting out of the snow and cold and onto the links doesn’t have to wait until summer or even late spring. The Grand Strand golfing mecca offers every bit the transition from your golf no-man’s land to our playground, and much earlier. In fact, by the time March comes around, we’ve already had several solid weeks of weather and maintenance on our tracks. It’s made them so inviting for out-of-town golfers who long ago discovered why that part of the calendar is so darn popular.
STARTING WITH THE OBVIOUS 
If you’re talking about late-winter (technically) or early summer golf in and around Myrtle Beach, the main draw is the weather. By this time of year, the beaches are starting to see a little more traffic, even if the water isn’t quite ripe for a swim. But since the sun is out, the sand is more than viable for a relaxing afternoon.
It can be a perfect complement to a morning 18. And trust us when we tell you that more often than not, the temps for a round are already better than what most of the country is going to offer. Players can regularly expect to see low-mid 60s, if not higher, within an hour of the sun rising. And because we haven’t hit our wettest portion of the year, threats of rain are going to be pretty minimal.
That means optimum conditions with fewer variables.
GETTING TO PERFECT 
Back in late fall, nearly <a href="https://www.mbn.com/news/approach-keeps-myrtle-beach-golf-green-year-round">20 courses in the Myrtle Beach area elected to conduct wall-to-wall overseeding</a>, something that could carry them through the winter and then allow for a quicker merge into the springtime. Likewise, by late February, all of the tracks around the area are also going to have started getting into their maintenance schedules without threats of weather interruption or heavy foot traffic.
That means by March, the grass under our feet from tee box to fairway to greens (and, yes, even the roughs) is going to start looking pristine on the top-end courses and almost assuredly better than what you have at your disposal back home across the board. Better playing surfaces means better playability means more enjoyment during your round. And for those who are only concentrating on the green stuff, also keep in mind that bunker treatment starts to sparkle this time of year. We mention that because chances are you’re gonna find one or two of them along the way. 
DISCOUNTS FOR ALL  
Most of the 90 or so courses around the northeastern coast of South Carolina &#8211; and just across the border in North Carolina &#8211; don’t consider early March part of the peak season. But they’re also not going to let their offerings sit idle for the sake of ego. Why does that matter for you? 
Money.
Myrtle Beach tracks are going to keep their greens fees at a cut-rate level in order to fill the tee sheets as much as possible. It does them wonders, as it also introduces their product to players who otherwise may have some of the competition in mind. But getting players onto a course is also going to springboard them into the heaviest season of play.
Taking advantage of the pre-peak rates is a great way for players to make the most of their choices, all without breaking the bank.
