MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. | We know about the bunker-heavy finisher at <a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/myrtle-beach-national-kings-north">Myrtle Beach National’s King’s North</a>.
The “SC” bunkers noting its home state on the island green Par 3 on No. 12 have been a talking point for years. And when it comes to The Gambler, it’s no secret how one of the most iconic holes along South Carolina’s Grand Strand has helped shape public opinion.
But what holes should be getting more attention?
The following four portions of Arnold Palmer’s layout at <a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/myrtle-beach-national-kings-north">King’s North</a> deserve the love.
NO. 3, PAR 4, 319 YARDS
Play this course for the first time, and the safety fairway up the right side sandwiched between a massive bunker and the pond looks like an inviting option. However, we’re here to tell you to stretch out the shoulders and let ‘er rip. Clear that pond, and at the very least you’re going to be hitting out of a finely manicured waste bunker mere feet from the green. If you can muscle up to fly the bunker, you’re no worse than a pitch shot to the flag. (top photo)
NO. 11, PAR 4, 389 YARDS
As far as straight-away Par 4s go, it’s pretty tough to take down what the 11th hole at King’s North brings to the table. There’s a visually appealing sliver of water in front of the tee boxes. Chasing that is a widely accessible from any of the tees. Closer to the green, two bunkers ensure that your approach shot is on target. However, what they also do is help you narrow your focus. The results are why this is such a popular hole here.
NO. 13, PAR 4, 379 YARDS
When it comes to doglegs, the standard thought process is that they’re utilized no earlier than the midway point of the fairway. On No. 13, however, that turn to the left happens so quick that most players elect to shelf the driver in order to give themselves even a puncher’s chance at going after the green with a long second shot. It’s a creative take on the Par 4 design strategy that mixes up an otherwise straightforward track.

You might as well put everything you’ve got into your tee shot here. Not only is it your last time to get out some aggression with little fear of destroying the score card (you’re not going to want to do that on No. 18), but you’re also going to want to get as close to the water separating the final stretch of the fairway and the green. Do that, and there’s no reason you’re not putting for birdie. (pictured right)
