The Know Your Score Golf Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is no ordinary celebrity gathering. The event, part of ZERO Prostate Cancer Golf, moves this year from Pawleys Plantation Golf &amp; Country Club to the Resort Club at Grande Dunes and Marina Inn at Grande Dunes – and brings with it a celebrity list that includes some of the biggest names in sports. Basketball greats Julius (“Dr. J”) Erving, Sam Jones and Lenny Wilkens; baseball legend Joe Morgan; and football icons Richard Dent, Cornelius Bennett, Thurman Thomas and Ed “Too Tall” Jones are among those scheduled to attend.

	Many of the aforementioned athletes are making a return trip to the Grand Strand for this event with a very personal connection to the cause: some of them have fought prostate cancer themselves, while others have had someone close to them affected by it. The goal of this event is simple: to generate funds and awareness that will ultimately lead to zero prostate cancer deaths, zero prostate cancer cases and, for those with prostate cancer, treatments that will lead to a zero PSA (prostate-specific antigen) test result.

	But rallying behind the greater good doesn’t quell the competitive spirit of the Know Your Score tournament. Last year, I asked Dr. J about playing alongside his buddy, fellow longtime NBA great Gus Williams (pictured, center), who’s in his third year of co-chairing this event. “Those little guards are short and quick,” said Erving, who then chuckled at the thought of cutting his friend a break on the links. “I’m not going to give him anything.” Indeed, jovial rivalry runs rampant in this event, just as it did on the courts or fields years ago.

	But while Williams has been playing golf for nearly three decades and is well known for his low handicap among his friends, it’s his greater passion for helping to find a cure for prostate cancer that drives many of these celebrities to participate. If it’s important to Gus, it’s important to them. Plus, as Erving notes, “if you have been given a platform and don’t use it, shame on you.”

	All proceeds from Know Your Score Golf Tournament go directly to the fight to end prostate cancer by funding testing, promoting education and awareness, and enabling research that will lead to the cure. Atlantic Urology Clinics and Carolina Regional Cancer Center will serve as title sponsors for the event for a third year in a row.
