<p>During the windiest portion of the calendar along the northeastern coast of South Carolina, golf here can often get a little more interesting beginning in October &#8211; toward the tail end of our natural hurricane season. Even if the storms stay offshore, winds in the 10-15 mile-per-hour range aren’t exactly rare.</p>

<p>They won’t require you to scrap your round, but if your game is a little loose and you want to avoid it, stick with these courses.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/founders-club"><strong>FOUNDERS CLUB OF PAWLEYS ISLAND</strong></a><br>Unlike the nearby Pawleys Plantation Golf &amp; Country Club, Founders Club is an insulated property secluded from the wide-open marshes located a relatively short distance away. The design and flow of this course is all about its sand and keeping your ball on the green stuff. As such, thick coverage from all the outer foliage and undulation based around that sand prevents the wind tunnel effects felt elsewhere.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/blackmoor-golf-club"><strong>BLACKMOOR GOLF CLUB</strong></a><br>The 18-hole layout here does have its share of holes that feel fairly open. However, the surrounding housing and tree lines throughout drop the wind factor to a near zero. In fact, the only true trouble spot is the sixth hole, which plays parallel to Highway 707. However, scaling this hole back from a short par 4 to a par 3 takes most of the wind coming across the five-lane road out of the equation.&nbsp;</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/willbrook-plantation"><strong>WILLBROOK PLANTATION</strong></a><br>In many ways, Willbrook is the perfect combination of those looking to beat the heat during the hottest portions of the calendar and those who aren’t crazy about beating the wind later in the year. All those tree varieties, including plenty of moss-draped oaks, are protecting the area underneath from getting beat down by the elements. Neither is your game. When you inevitably end up too close to one of the behemoth 200-year-old trees on the property, dap it up and thank it for knocking the wind down a peg.</p>

On two or three holes next to the Intracoastal Waterway, all bets are off during the windy season. However, that leaves 24 others in which &#8211; at worst &#8211; the breeze is mellow and/or moving parallel to the flow of the hole. The Lakes and Cypress nines have other challenges, sure, but any type of a cross wind turbining your ball into a hazard isn’t one of them.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/litchfield-country-club"><strong>LITCHFIELD COUNTRY CLUB</strong></a><br>When a whole bunch of other courses in the area followed Litchfield’s 1966 opening and proceeded to put a premium on length and big hitters, Litchfield said “Nah, we’re good.” Fourteen of the holes at this dogleg-happy track measure 400 yards or shorter, with exactly half of them chiming in less than 350. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that means shorter shots, less margin for error and thanks to all those doglegs and tight edges, minimal cross winds. What’s more, when the breezes are present, they’re at your back.&nbsp;</p>
