<p>Simply, he’s one of the icons of playability here, and his influence both on his solo and group projects alike can’t be oversold. He helped craft a run of designs that put the Grand Strand on the map, not only in the Southeast, but nationwide.</p>

<p>Let’s break down two of Jackson’s most popular Grand Strand options.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/river-club"><strong>RIVER CLUB</strong></a><br>Location: Pawleys Island<br>Year opened: 1985<br>Distances: Men’s &#8211; 6,240; Senior’s &#8211; 5,807; Women’s &#8211; 5,084<br>Par: 72<br>Signature hole: No. 18, Par 5, 493 yards (whites)<br>About: With more than 100 sand traps of varying sizes and water on 14 of the 18 holes, River Club is often what players here think of when Jackson’s name is mentioned. While it culminates on the fantastic Par-5 18 &#8211; complete with a peninsula cheat-zone landing area and a hope of going after the green in two &#8211; the entirety of this course dips and dives around all that water.</p>

<p>The fairways here bounce back and forth between the forgiving and not-so-forgiving, and coupled with some bends, precision is more often than not the name of the game.</p>

<p>Visitors to <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/river-club">River Club</a> have no choice but to take their time with club selection, even off the tee on the course’s Par 4s and Par 5s. The strategy works in large part because at 6,240 yards from the standard tees the course isn’t overly long and tends to allow players every opportunity to create a viable rhythm, especially on the front nine, where the Par 3s are six holes apart.</p>

<p>All of that is what Jackson had in mind when he laid out this track &#8211; and why returning players for nearly 40 years have bought into the philosophy.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/river-hills-golf-club">RIVER HILLS GOLF &amp; COUNTRY CLUB</a></strong><br>Location: Little River<br>Year opened: 1989<br>Distances: Men’s &#8211; 6,401; Senior’s &#8211; 5,719; Women’s &#8211; 4,987<br>Par: 72<br>Signature hole: No. 17, Par 5, 491 yards (whites) <br>About: <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/river-hills-golf-club">River Hills</a> is often considered one of the more undulated tracks in the Myrtle Beach area, as it presents with significant mounding throughout without ever changing the actual distance above sea level too dramatically.</p>

<p>What that means is a long, straight drive can jut one way or the other in some spots or even give players a favorable role in others.</p>

<p>Much like River Club, water is everywhere, and very much the driving force to everything at River Hills.</p>
</div>

<p>It’s visible from 13 of the 18 holes here, and directly in play on 10 of those 13. All told, there are seven holes in which a forced carry is absolute, as well as a couple more in which the daring among us can try to shave some distance by taking chances.</p>

<p>More players will be doing that than in past years thanks to a greens renovation project that not only saw a Tifeagle Bermudagrass installation but also a greens re-expansion closer to their original dimensions. Those putting surfaces are roughly 40-percent larger than they were in 2021, meaning the targets are bigger and able to accommodate even more of the aforementioned chances.</p>
