<p>There are hundreds of books written to help people get where they want to be with anything &#8211; from running a 5K to saving for retirement.</p>

<p>And while we certainly haven’t read them all, the self-help advice literature all seems to have a common theme.</p>

<p>Incremental improvement.</p>

<p>Bite off more than you can chew too early, and potential gains are stopped dead in their tracks. Don’t try to climb the latter, and growth is minimized. Easy enough, right? The end isn’t always the same, but the similarities with the means are.</p>

<p>We took that same approach to help players make their own necessary steps to crafting a better game. If you’re looking to build up a rhythm while nestled on the south end of South Carolina’s Grand Strand, this three-course combination might just serve up exactly the type of progress you need.</p>

<p><strong>GETTING WARMED UP</strong><br><u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/tradition-golf-club">Tradition Golf Club </a></u>was a natural starter for the south end, and not simply because of its oversized practice area. Yes, that zone behind the clubhouse is a nice bonus. But it’s only the beginning of what we love about the give and take possibilities here.</p>

<p>Tradition, while not a cakewalk, doesn’t really present any real danger on the course until the island green on the Par 4 seventh hole. Even that is relegated to a single stroke and drop if playing conservatively.</p>

<p>In fact, the hole many players believe to be the biggest challenge here is the&nbsp;520-yard Par 5 10th <em>(top photo)</em> that includes a near-90-degree dogleg left. Again, playing that hole conservatively (remember, this is only the beginning) can shave off some of the drama.</p>

<p><strong>BEGINNING TO PUSH YOURSELF</strong><br>During the first three holes at <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/willbrook-plantation">Willbrook Plantation Golf Club</a></u>, you might be thinking that we lost our teaching compass some. We’ll readily admit that the pair of Par 4s and the long Par 5 aren’t exactly easing you into much.</p>
</div>

<p>But they work into the overall theme because after you get through the first five holes (No. 5 is the fourth handicap here), the opportunity to really start diversifying your game through shot selection is the name of the game. You’re going to have to make some calls on the tee box on many of the Par 4s and at least one of the remaining Par 5s.</p>

<p>There will be a few chutes to navigate, and a couple of corners you may want to try to cut. We want to stir that internal debate. Your comfort level with it will determine what happens with your third round. <em>(Willbrook 5th hole pictured right)</em></p>

<p><strong>THE FINAL EXAM</strong><br><u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/pawleys-plantation">Pawleys Plantation Golf &amp; Country Club</a></u> if often considered one of the toughest courses on the south end for a reason. The fairways are anything but uniform. Some waste bunkers cripple players who can’t hit their targets. And the greens can be downright nasty at times.</p>
</div>

<p>Everything about Pawleys Plantation screams “You better be ready to go.”</p>

<p>Maybe no hole says it quite like No. 14. While the metrics put this as the 14th hardest hole <em>(pictured right)&nbsp;</em>on the entire course, the bloated fairway landing area off the tee is then cut by two-thirds into a sliver of an approach zone leading into an angled green.</p>

<p>The tests before and after will let you know just how much you’ve grown in a short period of time.</p>
