Hole Nos. 1, 3 and 5 are all heavy doglegs that give players every opportunity to hit something other than driver of the tee. From there, that means longer irons. The actual layout tips for every hole frequently warn players to avoid the drive and go with something else, then to find a precise club for shot No. 2.</p>

Yes, the latter will feel better in the short-term, but over the length of the course, players who are trying to prioritize long drives start to have regrets. Several of the would-be landing areas lead you right into trouble galore. That means trying to bite off more than you can chew on the approach.</p>
