<p>Outsiders always ask about the same handful of Grand Strand courses.</p>

<p>At least, the non-locals who aren’t making Myrtle Beach a regular stop on their travel plans are. They mention <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/caledonia-golf-and-fish-club">Caledonia</a> and <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/grande-dunes">Grande Dunes</a>, <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/myrtle-beach-national-kings-north">King’s North </a>and <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/the-dunes-golf-and-beach-club">Dunes Club</a>, <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/tidewater-golf-club-plantation">Tidewater</a> and <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/true-blue">True Blue</a>. Those rankings-centric tracks have certainly earned their talking points.</p>

<p>But the unsung heroes of Myrtle Beach’s golf landscape are obviously carrying their share of the load, too. They nurture our games back to health, let us remember why we loved golf to begin with, urge us to load up on balls and try out new clubs and just get back to nature.</p>

<p>When it comes to underrated tracks, we have a different perspective, because we know what all of them bring to the table. However, when we step back some, that tourist perspective needs to be bent ever so slightly.</p>

<p>Here are four that help us all remember why we play.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/wild-wing-plantation-avocet">WILD WING AVOCET</a><br>Wild Wing itself is a reminder of the change &#8211; it used to be a 72-hole complex, not the 27 we see now &#8211; but also of pure golf.</p>

<p>The straight-line 18 holes on the Avocet course are a nature-lover’s paradise, where birds and fox squirrels and the occasional deer roam the fairways. Designers Larry Nelson and Jeff Brauer incorporated thin tree lines, Par 4s where average hitters can reach an occasional green and super-clean sight lines that limit tragic shots.</p>

<p>If all of that isn’t enough, most players wrapping up a round can scoot into a quick tee time on the 9-hole Hummingbird, a creative add-on that can be played in 90 minutes or less most days.</p>

<p>At the same time, the golf is exciting, even on those holes you can’t quite place without the scorebook. It will prove worthy of the cost because it’s just fun.</p>
