Narrator: With an average annual temperature hovering around 24 degrees Celsius, it&#8217;s no wonder Myrtle Beach is the leading hot spot for Canadians looking to extend their golf season. The course they often arrive at is King&#8217;s North. One of three 18-hole options at Myrtle Beach National, King&#8217;s North is named after its designer, the king, Arnold Palmer. Though it began welcoming golfers in 1973, Palmer returned in the mid-90s to do a remodel. He incorporated a ton of water into this track, and it strengthened the course both visually and strategically. Players are required to fly the hazard on a number of tee shots, but the 6th hole, nicknamed The Gambler, is definitely the best example.
Meredith Kirk: The 6th hole here is called The Gambler. It&#8217;s a par 5, and this is a really unique hole because it has a risk-reward challenge. It has a island fairway that you can hit onto which really puts you in a good position for your second shot to be on the green. Obviously, you want to try to take the risk so you have a shot at eagle. This hole is so much fun. To me it&#8217;s one of the must-play holes here at Myrtle Beach and here at Myrtle Beach National.
Narrator: Another risky test awaits golfers at the 12th hole. It&#8217;s a short par 3 where any shots offline are likely headed to a watery grave.
Meredith Kirk: The 12th hole here is really cool. It&#8217;s a par 3, not a very long par 3, has an island green. The unique aspect of the green is you have a bunker near the green that has the initials SC for South Carolina, so you&#8217;ve really got to be accurate. Sometimes, here at the beach, you get a little bit of trade winds, and you&#8217;re fighting against those, but it&#8217;s really a fun, challenging hole here on King&#8217;s North.
Narrator: The rest of the back nine at King&#8217;s North contains some of the toughest holes on the card. That includes the par 4 18th which looks like a minefield of bunkers from the tee.
Meredith Kirk: Well, the 18th hole here at Myrtle Beach National is a great finishing hole, but it&#8217;s very challenging, so you&#8217;re going have to try to finish it well. What makes it challenging is there are 43 bunkers on this hole, primarily on the left side of the hole. Then on the right side, you also have water. This hole is called the Bull’s Eye because you need to be accurate to miss all of those obstacles, but it really is a cool hole especially to see just all those bunkers everywhere …
