“Wrong course. You’re supposed to be [insert the right one].”
Such is the routine as especially newer visitors to the Myrtle Beach golf scene haven’t quite pin-pointed which of the area’s four courses with “River” in the name are located. From River’s Edge to River Oaks, River Hills to River Club, the oft-confusing labels all speak for themselves, even when the directions get a bit wonky.
We’re gonna help.
Below, we’ve broken down each of the four, with the right address, and what to expect when you get there. And for quick reference, the further down the list you get, the further south that course is located.

Location: 2000 Arnold Palmer Drive, Shallotte, N.C. 
Opened: 1999 
Par: 72 
Standard distance: 6,033 yards 
About the course: Set primarily along the Shallotte River and with plenty of marshland abound, the Arnold Palmer design includes plenty of views unavailable elsewhere in the area. It has been considered one of the more popular courses to open in the 1990s. (top photo)

Location: 3670 Cedar Creek Run, Little River 
Opened: 1989 
Par: 72 
Standard distance: 6,401 yards 
About the course: Another Jackson layout, River Hills blends undulated fairways and elevation changes so infrequently available along the coast. Water is present on 13 of the 18 holes, and half of the holes include a forced carry either off the tee or into the green.(pictured right)

About the course: River Oaks recently downsized its Bear 9 in a long-expected move. However, the Tom Jackson course retained most of what it is known for &#8211; an ultra-fun and navigable track that can be played at a fast pace.

Location: 11 Pine Drive, Pawleys Island 
Opened: 1985 
Par: 72 
Standard distance: 6,240 yards 
About the course: Arguably the most impressive of Jackson’s Myrtle Beach layouts, River Club has even more water than River Hills while combining more than 100 bunkers of varying sizes. The course attacks players with both distance and precision.
