<p>Now, 50 years later, the <a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/myrtle-beach-national-southcreek">SouthCreek Course</a> here has continued to carry its share of the weight.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This 6,089-yard Par 72 is the Goldilocks of the three for many, and that’s because it’s anything but a pushover. Amid the round, three holes in particular will test your game.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>NO. 2, PAR 5, 471 YARDS</strong><br>Rated as the No. 2 handicap hole on the course (fitting, huh?), the second hole isn’t even the longest or second-longest Par 5 at SouthCreek. The distance by itself isn’t prohibitive. Where players often get in trouble is when they flirt too much with the water that runs up the first 60 percent of the hole. For attacking the green in two, it’s almost necessary. However, what gets lost in the thought of the water is the trio of perpendicular bunkers that lie just beyond the water. From most tee shots, those bunkers are going to be directly under the desired flight path to the green. But don’t hit it solid, or even roll your second shot, and your great chance at a par or birdie is now looking more like a bogey or double. Minimum.</p>

<p><strong>NO. 9, PAR 4, 376 YARDS</strong><br>Among the more difficult Par 4s at SouthCreek, this 376 yarder is much more slight curve than full-blooded dogleg. Some of it is negated by the oversized waste bunker that runs up the left side of the hole, meaning players are going to favor the other side. That brings us to what’s happening to the right of the fairway. While the water on the right isn’t in play for nearly anyone, the conspicuous swath of trees are. Combined with the waste bunker, and now you’re staring at a tunnel effect. Miss that window, and the breakdown will follow. On the contrary, if you’re able to leave your tee shot short of the last chunk of the bunker, and you’re going to be doing a happy dance. Go ahead. You’ve earned it. <em>(Top Photo)</em></p>

<p><strong>NO. 15, PAR 4, 379 YARDS</strong><br>The tee shot isn’t very forgiving, but we’re going to start with what always gets us on this hole. You see, the slightly elevated green and the opening behind it creates all sorts of issues with judging the hole and what club you’re going to hit to reach the misshapen green. When the staff elects to use the left side of the green for pin placement, it gets even worse. That’s because the line of houses set off to the back right and the opening to the 16th tee box is going to play tricks with your eyes. 140 yards might look like 120. And that’s where we return to that slight elevation change. If your approach shot is short, you run the risk of finding the patch of grass where putting is off the table and a chip shot requires an up-and-down most of us aren’t proficient at hitting. Yes, you’re better off finding some of the sand.<em>(Pictured right)</em></p>
