<p>Unlike some other spots along the coastline to our south, Myrtle Beach doesn’t have any holes playing directly alongside the Atlantic Ocean.</p>

<p>What we do have is the next best thing meshed with a different kind of look.</p>

<p>From courses where hitting into the Intracoastal Waterway is very much a possibility to others who are blended in and around significant acreage of marshes attached to various inlets and rivers, there is no shortage of courses crafted and even defined by water.</p>

<p><strong>TOUCH OF THE WATERWAY</strong><br>From the northern end of the Grand Strand to the southern tip, some courses that are drastically different from each other all took advantage of some signature holes running parallel to the Intracoastal. In Little River, <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/glen-dornoch-golf-club">Glen Dornoch Waterway Golf Links</a> lets you gaze upon the thoroughfare from the 17th tee box before its finisher runs north to south alongside the Waterway.</p>

<p>The No. 17-18 duo at <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/myrtlewood-golf-club-palmetto">Myrtlewood’s Palmetto Course</a> does the same, allowing players a south-north trek up 377 yards of the Par 4 to take it all in.</p>

<p>And just a few miles south, <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/arrowhead-country-club">Arrowhead Country Club’s</a> fifth hole &#8211; a 387-yard Par 4 &#8211; is so entrenched in its placement that players here often miss the creative mounding on the back half of the hole.</p>

<p><strong>ONE WITH THE INTRACOASTAL</strong><br>When <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/grande-dunes">Grande Dunes Resort Course</a> opened in 2001, the Roger Rulewich Group layout was revered for how much emphasis was put into shaping the holes around the Waterway.</p>
</div>

<p>Nothing has changed in that regard.</p>

<p>Nos. 8, 9, 10, 14, 15 and 18 all touch the Intracoastal, with several more holes playing close enough to it make it feel constant. The highlight of the run is the Par 3 No. 14, where the elevated tee box lifts you up enough to get a full grasp of the bluffs overlooking the body of water.</p>

<p><strong>MARSH-HEAVY OPTIONS</strong><br>Bookending the Strand on the north and south sides, <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/tidewater-golf-club-plantation">Tidewater Golf Club </a>and <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/pawleys-plantation">Pawleys Plantation Golf &amp; Country Club </a>have taken their place as arguably the two prettiest courses incorporating natural marsh terrain.</p>
</div>

<p>While one side of Tidewater’s property touches the Intracoastal, the more notable visual elements here are often tied to the marshes stemming from the Cherry Grove Inlet. They embolden nine of the 18 holes here and affect everything from shot selection to depth perception. There’s no mistaking why Tidewater <em>(pictured right)</em> is as honored as it’s been.</p>

<p>And down on the southern tip in Georgetown County, Pawleys Plantation’s back nine <em>(Top photo)</em> is so enveloped in marshland that it often serves as the most memorable part of a course laid out by one of the game’s greatest ever. Jack Nicklaus found ultra-creative ways to make it all work without disturbing the environment touching, at times, every side of the holes 13-18.</p>
