<p>The architects of our courses competed with each other, knowing longevity and staying power would ultimately determine who “won.” That led to more creativity, more chances taken, better golf.</p>

<p>One of our rewards is how different our Par 3s look. No two are identical. What’s more, each one has reason to beckon players with a relatively short amount of space. These six are some of my favorites.</p>

<p>The span from the northern tip of the Strand to the southernmost course. They all bring something special to their respective courses.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/willbrook-plantation">WILLBROOK</a>, NO. 6</strong><br>It’s not often you walk up to a tee box and wish the hole was … longer. Yet here you’ll find yourself on the sixth hole at Willbrook thinking just that. At an amazingly short 107 yards from the whites, the sneeze to the island green is demonstrably short. It’s all about punching up and down in a hurry, and it’s one part ease and one part not easy. We love it so much because of that lack of distance and the need for luck.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/litchfield-country-club">LITCHFIELD COUNTRY CLUB</a>, NO. 12</strong><br>Sans water, Litchfield’s 12th hole is loads of fun thanks to an offset green somewhat buried behind a tree and a bunker. Think of it as the closest thing to a dogleg you’re going to find on a Par 3. Shadows can also play into how you approach this hole, as part of the green may very well be shaded. You need to be able to trust your distances and your club selection. Do it successfully, and this is a true hole-in-one possibility.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/tradition-golf-club">TRADITION GOLF CLUB</a>, NO. 15</strong><br>While not the only island green at Tradition, the Par 3 15th is undoubtedly one of the most fun holes on the entire course. The 157-yarder includes a monstrous green that prevents most players from rolling into the water. Just the same, the edges of the putting surface can be a dangerous place to land, as the elevated landscape is adjoined by steep runoffs.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/grande-dunes">GRANDE DUNES RESORT CLUB</a>, NO. 14</strong><br>With the Intracoastal Waterway lining the entire right side of this hole, the elevated look from the bluffs will give you even more reason to look to the east. You’ll see the skyline of Myrtle Beach’s oceanside hotels and, if you’re lucky, a nice breeze of saltwater air. If you can stay your focus and turn back to the left, you’ll see a huge green just begging for the shot of your life. <em>(Top photo)</em></p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/glen-dornoch-golf-club">GLEN DORNOCH WATERWAY GOLF LINKS</a>, NO. 17</strong><br>From playing parallel to the Intracoastal to staring right at it, Glen Dornoch’s next-to-last hole brings you front and center with the Waterway. Depending on the time of year, the forced carry over the marsh between the elevated tee and the green can be filled completely with water. Even when it isn’t, you can’t ignore a backdrop that includes boats galore on one of the busiest stretches of the Waterway.</p>

<p><strong><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/myrtle-beach-national-kings-north">KING’S NORTH</a>, NO. 17</strong><br>Yes, the island green on No. 12 is a near-signature hole at King’s North. It’s an awesome short island green with the iconic “SC” bunker complex. We have no negative words about it. On the next-to-last hole of the day, though, a similarly beautiful Par 3 awaits. A forced water carry leads to an elongated greenside bunker and a large putting surface that’s capable of fangs and fury &#8211; depending on pin location.</p>
